Antioxidant Diet

Antioxidant Diet Helps Boost Energy Levels To Feel Young And Vital Again.

An antioxidant diet features foods rich in the nutrients and enzymes that can slow down the oxidation process that damages the cells of the body and causes aging and its subsequent diseases. A person who wants to enjoy sustained energy throughout the day should design an antioxidant diet for themselves that is rich in foods containing such antioxidant substances as polyphenols which research has proven help to prevent cancer, heart disease and other degenerative diseases. Topping the shopping list for an antioxidant diet are fruits in the berry category, including strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries, among the top best foods high in antioxidants. Matching berries for having the highest antixodant levels are beans such as pinto beans, red beans and black beans. Artichokes are the vegetable having the highest antioxidant rating and easy to include in an antioxidant diet steamed and served hot or cold, or included in salads.

No antioxidant diet is complete without nutritious snack foods. Sweet red delicious apples, sweet tart gala apples and tart granny smith apples are the best tree fruit offerings to include in an antioxidant diet. Pecans, served raw, roasted or toasted, black plums, red plums, prunes, which are actually dried plums and sweet cherries, enjoyed raw or dried, are other excellent choices for snacking when on an antioxidant diet. Oranges and red grapes are also excellent snacking choices for an antioxidant diet.

Kale, spinach and brussels sprouts are the best vegetable choices for an antioxidant diet. Russet potatoes also rank high in antioxidants for an antioxidant diet, and can be enjoyed baked and stuffed or cut into wedges and roasted drizzled with olive oil and fresh herbs. When considering whether or not a food is suitable for an antioxidant diet, check out what ORAC rating, meaning Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, this food has received from the USDA. The USDA recommends that anyone on an antioxidant diet should consume at least 3,000 ORAC units daily from the foods in their menus.
